Why Yoga?

I found yoga more than 18 years ago. I began the practice to help with depression. I found that over time, the more that I got present in my body, the more I could hear what my heart wanted. For me, the practice is not only a series of poses, but more a way of living, a way of being in and for the world around me. The presence that I discovered on my mat, translates, to everything I do. My practice is with me as I love, and take care of my family, it’s with me as I lead and grow this amazing community. Being a yogi did not change me, but more enhance the way I do my life. I see now, that much of my sadness that I called depression stemmed from simply not knowing who I was or why I was here. Yoga gave me my life’s work. It showed me that who I am is more then enough. Yoga taught me that each and every human has a light inside of him or her that could be wasted if not shared.

What Inspires You About the HOY Community?

The willingness of this community to grow so quickly continues to inspire me. We had an idea! Lets love and take care of each other! And they jumped in arms wide open! Many of our students came in new to yoga. They came in and committed to explore with no expectation of being perfect. This community just loves big! So often as we support one student to have free yoga, another will show up and donate extra money or buy one of our tee shirts. They don’t even think twice, they just know that together is how we thrive. Our students and teachers see the benefit of the practice and actively share their experiences with the community. It inspires me that this tribe of people from all walks of life has no fear of loving each other. I love it when I hear from traveling Yogis, and they say that we have something really special happening at House of Yoga. I believe them because I feel it every time I walk in the door.

Why Do You Teach?

Yoga is the tool that I choose to use, to speak to my students hearts. It’s the tool I use to help my students find vitality for their life. I have no interest in fixing anyone, because in truth there is nothing wrong. Only what is or isn’t working for them. Our bodies have a natural rhythm. It has a built in memory system. We Humans live on a planet that has gravity. Gravity and the stress of life can get heavy. Fact is most humans don’t like pressure. So I teach to help my students learn to relieve that pressure for themselves. I teach so I can continue to always be a student of the human spirit. I teach because I’m a seeker on a journey that never ends!

What Fires You Up Off the Mat?

My family and friends. I love seeing them reach their goals and live out their dreams. I am truly a kid at heart, so I’m always down for a journey into play. It fires me up to see people loving each other. My favorite people are the do gooders! You know who you are... The ones that are up to using their gifts, to save the world! Oh, and Dance parties! I love a good dance party.

Why Yoga For Me?

I practice yoga to connect with the highest light within myself. I began practicing yoga to honestly just workout for my physical health, but I am consistently blown away by the life changing impact yoga has on my mental and spiritual health as well. I am also a singer and absolutely love the connections between yoga and music. All the good vibes!

What Inspires You About The HOY Community?

The support of our community is unlike no other. Whether I'm teaching a class or practicing in a class, I feel comfortable and welcomed. The first time I walked in the door, Jackie literally greeted me by saying "welcome home" and I have felt welcomed home ever since.

Why Do You Teach?

I teach to positively impact the lives of others. Seeing the positive transformations yoga has on my students, gives me so much passion. In my classes, I convey the message there is no "right" or "wrong" way to do yoga- just your own unique way :) I love witnessing everyone's unique expressions. I also love adding elements of my passion of music to my yoga classes!

What Fires You Up Off The Mat?

My loved ones, music, living life to the fullest, and of course- my 2 cats.

Expertise: I offer traditional hatha yoga mixed with a little vinyasa flow and other modalities I enjoy and incorporate, such as kundalini yoga, Qi Gong, and Reiki, that is suitable for all levels and takes my students into a deep and spiritual experience that is creatively inspiring, relaxing and healing.

Experience: 200 hour RYT focusing on traditional hatha yoga, yoga philosophy, and sound healing/chant. I have taught for almost a decade and over 1,000 classes and am working on completing my 500 hour certification.

Why Yoga?
I broke my back when I was 14 and yoga was one of the things that helped me heal and then led me onto a path of compassion and awareness. I love the way moving my body and also practicing different aspects of yoga - devotion, meditation, chant, study, etc - bring me to such a space of peace and connection. It is a physical and spiritual practice that just really clicks for me.

Expertise: Heart-opening flows, empowering others to live their BEST lives, and magic.

Experience: 200+ hours of teacher training through Create Karma and House of Yoga
Over 3 years on the mat
An endless rabbit hole of self-development/growth/overcoming-some-tough-shit

Why Yoga?

I practiced yoga for the first time in 2015—and hated it because I wasn’t “good.”That mindset seems so far away now. I know today that the practice has nothing to do with how fit or flexible you are. Though it will transform your body physically (when I started this practice, I couldn’t even touch my toes), what it really does is transform your state of being. Yoga has cracked my heart open, unblocked my voice, and smashed fear after fear of staying hidden and small. It’s led me to a self-love—in body and spirit—that I only ever dreamed of. It’s healed a lifetime of disembodiment.

What Inspires You About The HOY Community?

After yoga found me, I went to studio after studio trying to find a home. I knew it was HOY as soon as I was greeted at the door, and I haven’t been able to walk away since. There is magic inside the walls and a magic within each of the teachers that you can’t help but catch. More

than anything, the community inspires me to continuously show up for myself, for others, and for possibility.

Why Do You Teach?

I teach to give it all away—everything I’ve been given. To lead others to softness in mind, body, and spirit; to healing; to embodiment; to their power; to god within themselves. Teaching has given me a platform to be seen, speak my Truth, and lead others to their own.

What Fires You Up Off The Mat?

Writing, running around the world, coffee and avocados, witchy shit, constantly learning and/or dancing, bodies of water, Spanish music, all the overflowing love in my life, and way too much self-exploration.

Why Yoga?

Balance. Not the kind where you stand on one leg…but rather balance between give and take, breath and body, heart and soul. Yoga has provided me a platform for self expression and self exploration. My practice has allowed me to expand from the inside out. It has invited me to explore challenges from new perspectives, taught me to accept growth in any and all forms and most importantly how to stand in my own my power… and to not only hear my voice but to listen closely.

What Inspires You About The HOY Community?

Our community has an eagerness to grow and explore. There is a beautiful collaboration of differences and similarities in every class. We build upon strengths, weaknesses and curiosities, together. There's that ‘grow together’ type love….and it inspires me to be my best self each and every day.

Why Do You Teach?

I teach to lift up.  To encourage growth. To empower the heart. To explore what is beyond comfort zones. To own our voices. I teach to help others believe in their own potential...both on and off the mat. I teach to remind myself of these things as well.

I encourage you to take yourself lightly, to feel free to explore and feel any emotions that come up, and to get into your practice way beyond the physical poses.

Experience:
200 hr teaching certification, and I've been teaching for 4 years

What Inspires You About The HOY Community?

I envision HOY as a place that lifts the boundaries between all people. Where each individual, myself included, can be our full unique selves without having to fit into a certain mold of what a "yogi" is.  I see that anyone can have a place at the House of Yoga if they choose. A place where our differences are celebrated as something to learn from to gain new perspective.

Why Do You Teach?

I love watching my students rediscover themselves through yoga.  I have had so many breakthroughs and revelations in my own practice/life, and now I get the opportunity to see it happen in others as well!  When a student tells me about some new experience they've had, or some life realization that they came to, it just makes me think "this is what it's really about".

What Fires You Up Off The Mat?

Art and Community are my major passions. I am like a kid in a candy store at a museum or gallery show, I want to make drawings of the art, and discuss every aspect of it. It is the same when someone approaches me with a really good collaborative idea that is going to benefit our community.  I can't wait to get started!  I want to tell everyone about what we are doing, and get as many people involved as possible.

House of Yoga is far more than a yoga studio; it is a home.  When I walk in the door, I always pause and take a deep grateful breath for the opportunity to be a member of this family.

Why Do You Teach?

I want to inspire others to live well and by leading yoga practices, I believe that I can help class participants along that path.  It is my hope that when every person leaves my class, he or she feels balanced, empowered, refreshed, loved and at peace.

Expertise:
I feel like I don't have one ... yet. everything is a continuous work in progress in my yoga practice and life in general.

Experience:
I’ve completed a power immersion 200 hr. teacher training with Sarah Yukie Gingrich and Jackie Dahlheimer / Create Karma and House of Yoga.  I’m currently in a 200 hr. teacher training with Sarah Yukie Gingrich / Create Karma. I’m completing a trauma informed yoga teacher training with Bodywise Institute. I teach once a week power yoga at House of Yoga and I teach a strength training and flexibility class twice a week at Hanover Boxing Club. I practice power yoga at House of Yoga at least three times a week and have a consistent home practice of restorative yoga.

Why Yoga?

I chose yoga, all different types, all for different benefits. in one of my trainings a teacher said "I finally in my 30's looked around the room and saw men with jacked up hips and bad backs" speaking on kickboxing ..  and he's right. Yoga is a movement for me, that I can safely get my heart rate up, my mind clear, and my joints and muscles protected as long as I am informed on what is safe for my own body. I believe if it hurts, you shouldn't do it. point blank period. and yoga for me, is so soothing and moving and beautiful. its stabilizing for my life, I could never go back to life without yoga.

What Inspires You About The HOY Community?

ALL OF IT. the HOY community is literally one I’ve never experienced anything like ... so much support and love. pure love. I’ve found lifetime friends in this community, like minded beautiful people that want growth and progress and good vibes daily because that’s what life is truly about. real, genuine love.

Why Do You Teach?

I teach because it is a way for me to give back to the people that have truly made me grow into the person I am today. most of the people I teach have inspired me and helped me enhance my life in some huge way ... it feels like literally the least I could do. also, I LOVE to teach at House of Yoga. the freedom I was given is amazing, and when a class is over and everyone is dripping sweat and happy and telling me they loved it .. you just can't put a description on that feeling.

What Fires You Up Off The Mat?

I love to travel ... I love my dog tanner ... I love horror novels .. and I love to sleep in. all those things fire me up, and fill my cup so I can keep giving.

Expertise:
Speaking to breath, alignment, challenging my students spiritually and physically and having kick butt playlists for class because yoga is fun!

Experience:
I first came to yoga almost 5 years ago and have continued my practice at least 3 to 5 times a week ever since. I am a certified 200 hour yoga instructor in the power vinyasa style as well as a certified 40 hour aerial yoga teacher. In the last year I’ve led several children’s workshops focusing on mindfulness and play in the yoga practice. I continue to expand my experience by attending workshops that focus on things such as assisting, inversions, alignment and the mind/body/spirit connection.

Why Yoga?

The physical practice of yoga is like no other workout that I’ve ever experienced. The physical benefits were the reason I first started taking class but I soon learned the plethora of other benefits such as the self-awareness that continues to this day, a deeper spiritual connection to self, the universe and the community and overall how I can take the practice off the mat and incorporate it into my everyday life.

What Inspires You About The HOY Community?

The HOY Community comes from so many different backgrounds, jobs and lifestyles and how that is just dropped at the “door” and we are all yogis no matter what, is beautiful. They hold space for each other as well as the teachers and just emanate love in every aspect not only inside the studio, but outside as well. The generosity is infectious and I am filled over the top with gratitude to be a part of it!

Why Do You Teach?

I teach because I believe in the power of the practice. It’s shifted my life in so many ways and I want to share that with the students. Every time they show up in class, it’s an opportunity to see a new reflection of myself in them. Teacher and student are one in the same and we are always learning from each other. It’s amazing the transformation that I see when they walk into class and first step on their mat to when they leave with that priceless yoga glow.

What Fires You Up Off The Mat?

What fires me up off the mat is spending time with my daughter, our pups and being involved in my community. I am passionate about music, not only with my playlists for class but also practicing piano and singing as well. I play soccer and enjoy connecting with nature by many other outdoor activities too. I consider myself an avid foodie and love the fact that there are so many great places within walking distance of the studio to enjoy a diverse culture of meals! You’ll also probably catch me with my nose in a good book every now and then too.
