Lara Tullar

Expertise:

I love how vinyasa asana allows freedom of movement within the ashtanga primary series framework. It allows me to find discipline and grace at once. It feels like I’m dancing with my breath.

Experience:

I am 200 hour RYT certified with Yoga Alliance. I studied under the tutelage of Alejandra Torres at Vida Asana in Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica. Off the mat, I am a kindergarten teacher! Most of my free time is spent playing outside in some way, whether running, biking, hiking, kayaking… whatever!

Why Yoga?

I find it easy to move, but difficult to move in clarity and peace. Asana practice is a physical Sādhanā for me, and it has opened the doors to the philosophical study of yoga too! Yoga creates space for me to be balanced, and to tune out irrelevant cacophony around me. I find that I’m more connected to everything else after practice.

What inspires you about the HOY community?

I love that everyone is so kind, welcoming, and understanding. There is an undercurrent of community throughout, and there is a very natural sense of inclusion and acceptance from both teachers and students

Why do you Teach?

I love yoga, and I want to share my love of yoga with others. I want to effectively provide the raw materials that allow others to become independent seekers. Mostly, I want to learn from the lovely humans that I teach. Teaching, in my experience, is inherently symbiotic.

What fires me up off the mat?

I don’t always want to go to my mat, and sometimes I fail. Yoga keeps showing up for me anyway, and there’s a comfort in that. Knowing that I have a safe space all my own, anywhere I go, gets me back on the mat. Yoga has never made me feel worse for wear.
