Rita Whitney

LEad Teacher

You are going to walk out of my class with a brighter outlook on life, every time.  I feel confident in saying that I am great at sharing my extreme optimism with all of my students. I encourage you to take yourself lightly, to feel free to explore and feel any emotions that come up, and to get into your practice way beyond the physical poses.

200hr teaching certification, and I've been teaching for a year and a half.

What inspires you about the HOY community?

I envision HOY as a place that lifts the boundaries between all people. Where each individual, myself included, can be our full unique selves without having to fit into a certain mold of what a "yogi" is.  I see that anyone can have a place at the House of Yoga if they choose. A place where our differences are celebrated as something to learn from to gain new perspective.

Why do you teach?

I love watching my students rediscover themselves through yoga.  I have had so many breakthroughs and revelations in my own practice/life, and now I get the opportunity to see it happen in others as well!  When a student tells me about some new experience they've had, or some life realization that they came to, it just makes me think "this is what it's really about".

What fires you up off the mat?

Art and Community are my major passions. I am like a kid in a candy store at a museum or gallery show, I want to make drawings of the art, and discuss every aspect of it. It is the same when someone approaches me with a really good collaborative idea that is going to benefit our community.  I can't wait to get started!  I want to tell everyone about what we are doing, and get as many people involved as possible.
