Speaking to breath, alignment, challenging my students spiritually and physically and having kick butt playlists for class because yoga is fun!
I first came to yoga almost 5 years ago and have continued my practice at least 3 to 5 times a week ever since. I am a certified 200 hour yoga instructor in the power vinyasa style as well as a certified 40 hour aerial yoga teacher. In the last year I’ve led several children’s workshops focusing on mindfulness and play in the yoga practice. I continue to expand my experience by attending workshops that focus on things such as assisting, inversions, alignment and the mind/body/spirit connection.
The physical practice of yoga is like no other workout that I’ve ever experienced. The physical benefits were the reason I first started taking class but I soon learned the plethora of other benefits such as the self-awareness that continues to this day, a deeper spiritual connection to self, the universe and the community and overall how I can take the practice off the mat and incorporate it into my everyday life.
What Inspires You About The HOY Community?
The HOY Community comes from so many different backgrounds, jobs and lifestyles and how that is just dropped at the “door” and we are all yogis no matter what, is beautiful. They hold space for each other as well as the teachers and just emanate love in every aspect not only inside the studio, but outside as well. The generosity is infectious and I am filled over the top with gratitude to be a part of it!
Why Do You Teach?
I teach because I believe in the power of the practice. It’s shifted my life in so many ways and I want to share that with the students. Every time they show up in class, it’s an opportunity to see a new reflection of myself in them. Teacher and student are one in the same and we are always learning from each other. It’s amazing the transformation that I see when they walk into class and first step on their mat to when they leave with that priceless yoga glow.
What Fires You Up Off The Mat?
What fires me up off the mat is spending time with my daughter, our pups and being involved in my community. I am passionate about music, not only with my playlists for class but also practicing piano and singing as well. I play soccer and enjoy connecting with nature by many other outdoor activities too. I consider myself an avid foodie and love the fact that there are so many great places within walking distance of the studio to enjoy a diverse culture of meals! You’ll also probably catch me with my nose in a good book every now and then too.
